Wise Bread is an independent, award-winning consumer publication established in 2006. Our finance columns have been reprinted on MSN, Yahoo Finance, US News, Business Insider, Money Magazine, and Time Magazine.

Like many news outlets our publication is supported by ad revenue from companies whose products appear on our site. This revenue may affect the location and order in which products appear. But revenue considerations do not impact the objectivity of our content. While our team has dedicated thousands of hours to research, we aren’t able to cover every product in the marketplace.

For example, Wise Bread has partnerships with brands including, but not limited to, American Express, Bank of America, Capital One, Chase, Citi, Discover, and Amazon.

As companies compete for qualified part-time workers, many have realized that offering a benefits package is a great way to attract the best employees. Some offer benefit packages that extend far beyond medical coverage and often include dental, vision, tuition reimbursement, and even childcare costs. While many small businesses also offer terrific perks for part-timers, consider these well-known larger companies with excellent part-time benefits.

Improvement Or Development Of Wellness Programs

Financial incentives for wellness and wellness program development are already being used by several large employers. Insurance companies have already started using tech fitness trackers to give discounts for life insurance premiums, for example. The Amazon, Hathaway, and Chase partnership may provide more opportunities in areas like this, long-term, that may then be adopted by other employers or insurance programs.

What Does This Mean For Lead Generation

Amazon possibly going into health insurance would definitely disrupt the heath insurance vertical, and should be something to keep an eye on. For one, Amazon has over 640,000 employees as of 2018, which is larger than the population of Vermont. They all would be covered by Amazon insurance right off the bat, and their families as well. Amazon also wants to make the entire industry more affordable in turn, it would be safe to assume that their health insurance would be more affordable as well. Since there are so many regular Amazon users, what is stopping them from just using it for health insurance as well?

Amazon being a primary care provider is also something that could be here before you know it they already have an open pilot care clinic for certain employees and plan to expand to more employees this year. If successful, it is very possible that Amazon would expand their primary care facilities for people who are not employees. They already have brick and mortar stores when they acquired Whole Foods, so having locations for their care facilities would not be difficult to launch.

Even if Amazon does nothing with healthcare, it is still something to keep an eye on. Being aware of what is going on in your industry is always important. boberdoo strives to stay in the loop with all things that could affect the lead generation industry. What Is Catastrophic Insurance

A catastrophic insurance plan meets the insurance mandate for those 30 years of age and younger . These plans cost a little less than traditional insurance as they do not provide the full scope of services and are limited to, as it sounds, protection in the case of a more catastrophic situation. These plans do cover 3 primary care visits per year at no cost and also include preventive services. Note also that catastrophic plans are not eligible for a government subsidy.

How Amazon Healthcare Would Change Digital Health Plans

Perhaps every insurers worst fear is that Amazon will eventually launch its own health plan. The company has given one indication after another that this, too, is a very real possibility. Amazons eventual entrance into healthcare is big news for incumbent insurers because it validates the supposition that Amazon may one day disintermediate health plans and sell its services directly to employers.

Having now worked at CVS, several Blue Cross plans and UnitedHealth Groups Optum, I can definitively conclude these disintermediation fears are not unfounded. Driven by the digital revolution, consumer expectations of a seamless healthcare experience that is both transparent and affordable have finally caught up with the industry. If it can be this easy to shop and purchase products and services on Amazons marketplace, why should healthcare be any different?

Healthcare consumerism is inevitably on the rise, but the healthcare industry has been slow to catch up with the rapid digitization of its user base. In light of growing employee demand, employers have pushed heavily on health plans and PBMs to make a swath of shiny digital health tools available. This includes everything from app-based wellness programs to virtual chronic condition management for complex therapeutic areas.

What Is An Exchange

How Amazon Could Disrupt Health Care

A health insurance marketplace, or “exchange,” is a website where health insurance companies come together to give you a place to shop for health insurance. Just like shopping for a flight on a travel website, you can see all of your options and prices in one place. That makes it easier to compare your options and find the best fit for your family’s needs. Many states offer their own health marketplaces. For states that don’t offer their own exchange, you may access the health insurance marketplace operated by the federal government or utilize a web based entity such as eHealth.

Could An Amazon Pharmacy Be A Prescription For Disaster ...

Lowering health insurance costs can be possible on many levels. Looking closely at the health and health spending of employees and developing new ways to deliver services, or negotiate rates with medical providers, could serve as a model for larger scale improvements in healthcare for the country as a whole. Jeff Bezos, Amazon’s CEO said, “Hard as it may be, reducing health care’s burden on the economy while improving outcomes for employees and their families would be worth the effort”.

Better Options For Employee Investments And Savings

Many employer-sponsored health programs have seen increases in the amount of money that the employee pays over the past several years. For example, if one of the focuses of the partnership would be to use JPMorgan Chase’s investment and financial expertise in developing top HSA options for employees, it could lead to more employee investment options and savings.

    Cutting Costs On Pharmaceuticals

Repackaging the process and eliminating or reducing costs associated with middlemen like pharmacy benefit managers, could provide significant savings in health care spending. You can see a really interesting graphic by Kaiser Health News which gives a good idea of how effective this can be. Subsidies are based on your best estimate of your household’s modified adjusted gross income for the year. Its No Secret That The Private Health Insurance Market Is Plagued By Massive Inefficiencies Every Year Most Consumers Are Confused And Overwhelmed By Health Insurance Purchasing And Can Waste Thousands Of Dollars Choosing The Wrong Plan At The Same Time Premiums And Deductibles Are Rapidly Rising At A Rate That Well Outpaces Annual Wage Growth

Health insurance on FIRE / early retirement – my research and plan

Opaque pricing models have forced employers and consumers to accept these inefficiencies. Now, Amazon Care is poised to upend this unsatisfactory status quopushing health benefits advisors and carriers to consider ways to bolster their competitive advantage.

Currently, Amazon Care provides Washington state-based Amazon employees access to medical care via telehealth and in-person home visits. In summer 2021, Amazon Care will roll out to all Amazon employees across the country as well as other Washington-based companies. This first expansion is very likely just the beginning of Amazons move into the healthcare space. And since Amazon Care is contracting directly with employers, theyre setting themselves up as a viable alternative to large health insurance providers, and potentially circumventing their brokers entirely.

Whatever the tech giants next move, theres no question that it will disrupt the private health insurance market.

Our health system is incredibly fragmented, which results in massive cost inefficiencies and individuals left largely on their own, says MyHealthMath President and Chief Mission Officer Dr. Elizabeth Cote, MD, MPA. Through conglomeration, Amazon is uniquely capable to solve this chaos and gain efficiencies, giving individuals what they cravea coordinated, predictable, understandable, and comfortable healthcare experience.

    Two Opportunities To Course

Make choosing a cost-effective health plan easy

Among our clients, weve found that 50 to 60 percent of consumers waste over $1,300 a year overbuying health insurance. If other players in the market dont correct these inefficiencies, Amazon will, says MyHealthMath Founder and CEO Bob Watterson. Slicing inefficiencies is what theyve done again and again in other markets. It wont be any different here.

Employees choose the wrong health plan because its too hard to do the math and figure out the most cost-effective option. Individuals have very little transparency about how much their healthcare will cost them, so they often choose a low deductible plan with higher premiumsa more expensive option that feels safer. This results in employers and employees wasting millions annually overpaying on premiums. Robust decision support tools can slash that waste by doing the math for employees and empowering them to choose a plan that will save them money.

Importantly, these tools need to be personalized to be effective. Tools that calculate the best plan based on limited information or dont factor in employer-specific plan information risk inaccuracies and continued inertia. Without personalization, employees are also less likely to trust these recommendations, and therefore less likely to change behavior.

Uncovering and explaining how our digital world is changing and changing us.

In the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, Amazon appears to be considering a new business: helping Amazon sellers with their own health insurance needs. Amazon sellers account for nearly 60 percent of Amazons retail sales, with around 900,000 active Amazon seller accounts in the US alone. That merchant base gives Amazon a huge potential target for such an offering.

Earlier this week, Amazon sent out a survey to its sellers, inquiring about the types of health insurance coverage these merchants offer their own employees. The survey, which Recode viewed, asked whether the sellers are satisfied with the coverage or would consider alternative options.

What can be improved on your current health coverage? one question asked. Are you interested in alternative health insurance options? asked another.

The survey also included questions about how much a seller pays in insurance premiums and what percentage of premiums fall on employees to cover. Amazon also asked about the complexity of choosing good and affordable health insurance plans for their employees and how satisfied they are with their coverage.

In the language of the survey, Amazon did not firmly commit to creating a health care or health insurance offering for its sellers and their respective employee bases. But the survey did end by saying e will keep you informed as we explore how Amazon may be able to support your needs better.
