Are Vasectomies Ever Covered By Insurance

Two main reproductive healthcare methods fall outside federal coverage mandates: drugs that induce abortion and services for male reproductive control. Even though vasectomies are cheaper and lower risk procedures compared with tubal ligation, theyre not considered preventive measures and not required to be covered.

However, eight states do require plans to cover vasectomies at no out-of-pocket cost to the patient. Those states are:

  • Illinois

  • Vermont

  • Washington

Another possible way to cover the cost of a vasectomy is through a job-based flexible spending account or a health savings account , a portable account paired with a high-deductible health plan. FSAs and HSAs let you pay for eligible healthcare expenses with pre-tax dollars. A vasectomy is an eligible expense in IRS publication 502.

When it comes to other forms of male birth control, several are in the development stages, including two pills: 11-MNTDC and DMAU, as well as a topical gel known as NES/T. However, we are still many years and stages of testing away before a new male birth control product will become commercially available.

Nationally, our extant primary health care delivery system is already straining to meet the needs of low-income, uninsured, and underinsured populations. Between 2011 and 2012, before Affordable Care Act mandated increases in Medicaid reimbursement rates, 33% of primary care physicians and 22% of obstetriciangynecologists reported not accepting new Medicaid patients. These estimates varied considerably by state with 44% to 54% of PCPs in New Jersey, California, Alabama, and Missouri reporting not accepting new Medicaid patients. As per a 2012 Government Accountability Office report, a majority of states reported that their Medicaid managed care plans faced substantial difficulties recruiting obstetriciangynecologists to accept those plans. After ACA implementation, 59% of PCPs and 64% of primary nurse practitioners or physician assistants reported increases in visits from Medicaid or newly insured patients.

Obamacare Key To Planned Parenthood Expansion

After working and spending a great deal to get Obama elected, Planned Parenthood was one of the privileged groups invited to the Presidents health care summit at the White House early in Obamas first term in March of 2009. Though it was unknown what final shape the healthcare plan would take at the time, Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards offered her organization as a model of what the Planned Parenthood website termed a safety-net health care provider and entry point into the health care system for millions of men and women.

Planned Parenthood fought for and defended the health plan, pushing to get it passed in March of 2010, and then helping to keep in office the politicians needed to keep it from being modified in any significant way that would threaten either the plan or their abortion empire. Obama and his Senate allies responded in kind, defending and promoting the abortion giant and making federal funding of Planned Parenthood the one non-negotiable in high stakes budget talks.

It has been a very profitable relationship for Planned Parenthood.

Today, as ObamaCare begins it rollout, Planned Parenthood stands poised to bring in hordes of new customers, rake in even more money, and further expand its already massive abortion empire.

What Will My Healthcare Provider Tell My Parents

Billie Eilish at Austin City Limits on Texas Abortion Ban: Bans Off Our Bodies | Planned Parenthood

According to California law, your healthcare provider cant tell your parents or guardians anything about your exam if youre seen for any confidential services .

This privacy includes care for problems or concerns in the areas of sexuality, mental health and substance abuse. You, as a young person, can consent for care on your own in these areas. You need your parent or guardians consent for other health services, such as physicals and treatment for colds, flu and injuries.

Even though you dont have to ask your parents before you get confidential care, its a good idea to talk with them or another trusted adult about your medical needs.

Planned Parenthood Provides Health Care For Millions Of Women In The Us We Can’t Defund Them

As a doctor, public health leader and the president of Planned Parenthood, I am driven by the belief that health care is a fundamental human right.

This belief is often challenged, especially by those in power. But this week delivered a victory for anyone who shares my strongly held conviction that all people deserve access to affordable health care: The Supreme Court allowed lower court rulings to stand in Medicaid defunding cases, meaning Medicaid patients in Kansas and Louisiana can continue to rely on Planned Parenthood for birth control, cancer screenings and STD testing and treatment.

The stakes of these cases cannot be overstated.

For many of our patients, Planned Parenthood is not only their chosen health-care provider, were the only health-care provider available to them. In 67 percent of counties in the U.S., safety-net clinics would have to double their capacity in order to make up for Planned Parenthood patients. In Louisiana, Planned Parenthood health centers served nearly 70 percent of female contraceptive patients in 2015. In Kansas, more than 188,000 women qualified for publicly funded family planning services in 2014.

From a public health perspective, we already know what happens when politicians block access to care at Planned Parenthood. In Iowa, STD rates skyrocketed after politicians forced Planned Parenthood to close four health centers.

Community Health Centers Cant Go It Alone

    This column contains a correction.

Last week, the House passed a bill to repeal the Affordable Care Act, or ACA, by a narrow margin: 217-213. Just weeks after President Trump signed a bill that overturned a critical Obama administration rule that protected Title X providers and provided health care to nearly 4 million people a year, womens health is now under attack more broadly. The American Health Care Act, or AHCA, threatens essential health benefits,* restricts abortion access, cuts Medicaid funding, and jeopardizes economic security for millions of women. In an attempt to shut down Planned Parenthood health centers, conservatives insist that community health centers, or CHCs, can shoulder the burden of Planned Parenthoods client base should their doors close. This romanticized notion of CHCs and their capacity not only jeopardizes the health and well-being of millions of low-income peopleit also puts the entire health care system at risk by destabilizing the Title X network.

Cant People Just Go To A Private Family Doctor

No, Community Health Centers Cannot Absorb Planned ...

The idea that people can just go to family doctor now that we have ObamaCare is a misconception.

First, a private doctor may require a copay and an appointment. Paying up to $100 to see your doctor in order to ask them for free birth-control provided through ones insurance, or getting a free STI screening, is much less free if your cost includes a doctors appointment. . Also your doctor may not have the necessary community knowledge to offer the same level of care and support that Planned Parenthood can.

Privacy in health matters is important. Men and women may rely on the anonymity provided by Planned Parenthood to talk about things that they wouldnt want to discuss with a family doctor. Your doctor may be required to keep things confidential, but you can bet that the STI screening will be on your family insurance if you go to the family doctor. Of course, for those without a family doctor simply dont have the option.

Things You Need To Know About Planned Parenthood

My mission for Hitha On The Go has always been to help you live your best lives. I firmly believe that being knowledgeable and engaged is a core pillar of that mission. I vowed to listen with an open mind and heart after the election, and I ask you to do the same today. There is a lot of noise and misconceptions about Planned Parenthood mostly around abortion. Todays post is to give you information about healthcare access for uninsured, how Planned Parenthood fits into it, and what the elimination of federal funding means for millions of Americans.

What I wont mention in this post abortion. Abortion has become synonymous with Planned Parenthood, which has clouded our ability to look at the organization objectively on both sides of the aisle.

Today I want to focus on Planned Parenthood , and examine the role they play in our healthcare system.

I dont ask you to agree with me. I also dont wish to launch a digital firestorm of differing opinions. All I ask is for you to read this post with an open mind, and contribute to a meaningful dialogue.

Congress is like butter. Its on a roll!

The 115th Congress has been abuzz with activity. And one big move grabbed a lot of attention including my own.

Speaker Ryan and the Houses GOP leadership pledged to cut federal funding from Planned Parenthood.

I know Planned Parenthood. You know Planned Parenthood. And we all have strong opinions about the 100-year organization.

    And then we wrote.

    And we did.

    Tips For Finding A Doctor

If you have health insurance, a good first step is to choose a primary care provider if you dont already have one. A PCP is a doctor you go to for yearly check-ups and non-urgent health issues. They can refer you to specialists and help you navigate your health care. You can usually choose a nurse practitioner as your PCP or a doctor who specializes in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine or OB/GYN.

Start with your insurance. Many health insurance providers list doctors who accept your insurance on their website. These lists include medical specialty and gender. They may also include information about education, training, certification and personal interests. Depending on what kind of plan you have, this may be the best place to start looking for a PCP so you can be sure your insurance will cover your care.

Do some research. Here are some other ways to find doctors in your area:

    • Ask friends, coworkers and family members who they go to for their health care. A recommendation from someone you trust is a great way to find a good doctor.
    • If you have coverage through Medicaid or Medicare, the Medicare website can help you find local doctors who accept patients with Medicaid or Medicare.
    • If youre insured through your employer, human resources may have a list of doctors for your companys health plan.Search for hospitals in your area and see if their websites list local doctors.
    • Whats your philosophy about patient care?
    • How long have you been practicing?
