In 2015, nearly one-third of large employers chose to only offer high deductible health plans to employees and over 80 percent added HDHPs to their list of health insurance offerings.

Because HDHPs dont seem to be going away anytime soon, its important that all business owners and employees familiarize themselves with how these plans function.

How Does An Hdhp Work

The deductibles for an HDHP are often higher than the minimums of $1,400 and $2,800 . They may be as high as the maximum OOP costs: $7,050 for a single person and $14,100 for a family in 2022. Maximum OOP costs include deductibles, co-payments, and coinsurance.

Deductibles exclude monthly fees and costs not covered by your HDHP, including out-of-network expenses.

All plans bought through an Affordable Care Act Marketplace and most through other means have to cover certain preventive services at an in-network provider no matter how much of your deductible you’ve paid. HealthCare.gov provides lists of preventive services for all adults and those only for women and children.
