Walmart Cuts Health Care for Employees
The bad news is that many companies expect to pare down their health care benefits because of rising health insurance costs. Walmart told employees this month it will no longer health benefits for new part-time workers starting next year. Overall health insurance premiums across the country increased 9 percent in 2011, nearly three times the rate of inflation and the most since 2005, a study from the Kaiser Family Foundation/Health Research & Educational Trust in September showed.
But there are still companies that are offering health benefits for part-time employees, and don’t be fooled into thinking that only teenagers get part-time gigs in retail, especially seasonal jobs. Job-hunters in their 40s and 50s and beyond are finding work in unexpected places also.

All Target “team members” who work as little as two and a half days a week are eligible for health care coverage after six months, according to Erin Madsen, Target spokeswoman. Madsen said the company is “very proud” of its current medical plans and programs, which include 100 percent coverage for recommended preventive care, no lifetime maximum limits and no pre-existing conditions.

I can go to any fastfood spot and make more than $13, this is unfair
If you work here, don’t ever expect a “great job” or “thank you”. But you better be sure they’ll be down your throat over your first mistake! It would be nice to not feel like management is openly hostile to the workers.

At the initial appointment, the employee will meet with an EAP counselor to discuss the situation. The counselor will collaborate with the employee to develop a personal plan of action to resolve the issue. This plan may include follow-up consultations, if necessary. In some cases, the counselor may refer the employee to other professionals for follow up.
The EAP counselor will provide feedback to the employer as to whether the employee attended the counseling session and if he or she accepted the counselors recommendations.

And even if the precise language is a work in progress, its good that the governor has raised this issue.
